BMSCE - Yesterday and Today
The Lecture classes were conducted in the North Anjaneya Temple Street,
in an old building. In the academic year 1954-55, it was shifted to
the present campus. Workshops and Laboratories started / being equipped
in the present campus of the B.M.S. Engineering College. As fully equipping
the Laboratories was a time consuming affair, laboratory training was
imparted in the University College of Engineering. The students took
their practical examination also there. In a very short period all the
laboratories and workshops were fully equipped and the University approved
this college as a center for all examinations including the practical
examinations.
Before this college was started, there was only one Engineering College
in the state, namely the University Engineering College with limited
admission strength. To the great number of aspirants, who could not
take up engineering studies for the lack of availability of seats, this
college opened a new vista of hope for a bright future. The students
put their heart and soul into their work with great enthusiasm.
The following Institutes are run by BMS Institutions:-
Campus
The
campus has well laid lawns with foliage plants dotted along the lawns.
Flowered trees planted along the road adds beauty and provides a sylvan
atmosphere. The
college is situated in the heart of the "Garden City - Bangalore"
(12 57’N and 77 38’E, 914m altitude) which is one of the most important
industrial cities in India. Bangalore is also known as the "Electronic
City" of India.
Bangalore
has well established large industrial organisations, in the areas of
Information Technology, heavy electrical, machine tools, entertainment
electronics, communication, bio-instrumentation etc., and National Laboratories
of known international standing in the field of scientific and technological
research (such as the National Aerospace Laboratories, Indian Institute
of Science etc.,).
The city is well connected by road, rail and air with all the principal
cities of the country. Many places of tourist interest and scenic beauty
are accessible within short distances. The climate of Bangalore is salubrious
with a cool weather almost throughout the year except during the months
of April and May when it slightly warms up. The B.M.S. College of Engineering
has an extensive campus of 15 acres. The area consists of several buildings
- old and modern, with well-laid out roads (2.55 acres), play grounds
(2.3 acres) and lawns (3.6 acres) lit with modern lighting. New buildings
of modern design have since been constructed with the financial aid
from the Sate and the Central Governments.
